FGCU Food Forest Seeks Donations
Supplies to Help Expand Student Garden

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2015) – The Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Food Forest, a botanical garden run by students, is seeking donations from the community to expand its diversity of species and sustainable lifestyle. The Food Forest is seeking native plants and seeds, a Corona Razor Tooth 21-inch Raker Saw (RS-7160), picnic tables, benches, trowels, hand shears and a kiosk.

The FGCU Food Forest grows a collection of species from around the world that can grow locally in the southwest Florida climate. The garden provides initiative for students to learn how to grow organic vegetables and different types of plants. The purpose of the Food Forest is an educational and hands-on experience for students to contribute to the community and learn the importance of sustainability.

“Here at FGCU, environmental sustainability is something we take very seriously, and I am pleased to see how well the Food Forest has blossomed,” said Wilson Bradshaw, FGCU president. “The student body is reaching out to the community for donations, in order to sustain and greatly expand the Food Forest.”

The Food Forest is located near the Sugden Welcome Center on the FGCU campus and donations can be delivered during the Food Forest club meeting times, which are Mondays from 4-6 p.m. and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m.
